How do I cite a quote over 40 words?
Answer
If a quotation has 40 words or more, it is a "block" quotation. Do not use quotation marks. Instead, start the block quotation on a new line and indent the entire block 0.5 inches from the left margin. Double-space the entire block quotation.
There are two ways to cite the block quotation. You can cite the source in parentheses after the quotation's final punctuation or cite the author and year in a description before the quotation and place the page number in parentheses after the quotation's final punctuation.
