When should I use a running head on my paper?
Answer
According to the APA Publication Manual, a "running head" is a short version of the title of your paper that appears at the top of every page of the paper, including the Reference page (American Psychological Association [APA], 2020, p. 37). Running heads are not required for student papers unless an instructor or the school asks for a running head in the instructions. A student paper "includes only the page number" (APA, 2020, p. 37).
The Manual also states that running heads are "required only for manuscripts being submitted for publication" (APA, 2020, p. 37).
